The May 2020 PS Plus and Xbox Games with Gold releases have been unveiled by Microsoft and Sony.
Xbox One owners can download V-Rally 4 for Xbox One and Sensible World of Soccer for Xbox 360.
Sensible World of Soccer will be replaced by Overlord 2 on May 16, which is the same day Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr joins Xbox One.
PlayStation Plus subscribers, on the other hand, can grab Farming Simulator 19 and Cities Skyline from May 5.
With the free games hitting PS4 and Xbox One, now is the perfect time to once again pit Microsoft against Sony.
Sony has been dominant in recent months, thanks to PS Plus freebies such as Uncharted 4, BioShock The Collection, Shadow of the Colossus, and Titanfall 2.
Could May 2020 finally be the month Xbox scores a victory over PS4? Read on to find out.
Cities Skylines is the pick of the bunch on PS4, scoring an impressive 81% on Metacritic.
“Build the city of your dreams: Plan road networks, bus lines and parks,” reads the official description.
“Bring on a smog-filled industrial revolution or create a quiet beach town ideal for tourists powered by renewable energy. Build it your way!”
The PS4 edition of Cities Skylines also includes the After Dark expansion, which adds nightlife into the mix.
Farming Simulator 19, meanwhile, is something of a cult hit, despite having a Metacritic score of just 64%.
“The ultimate farming simulation returns with a complete graphics overhaul and the most complete farming experience ever!” reads the official description. “Become a modern farmer and develop your farm on two huge American and European environments, filled with exciting new farming activities, crops to harvest and animals to tend to.”
Xbox One kicks things off with V-Rally 4, which features over 50 vehicles, as well as courses on every continent. Unfortunately, however, it only has a score of 67% on Metacritic.
“Take on the challenges of rallycross, drifts, buggies, and hill climbs in V-Rally 4,” Microsoft explains.
“Over 50 famous vehicles are available to customise and race in this demanding simulation. You’ll dominate dangerous roads and hostile conditions as you set off on a spectacular journey across every continent. Let your adrenaline boost your reflexes in this legendary off-road racing game.”
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is the pick of the bunch on Xbox One, scoring 71% on Metacritic.
“Play as the Inquisitor, the Imperium’s most powerful agent in Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr,” Microsoft explains.
“Across the far-flung corners of the Warhammer universe, impose the Emperor’s will as you conduct your investigation across multiple planets. Go solo or team up with four friends in visceral combat and purge the chaos lurking behind the walls of the fortress-monastery, Martyr.”
Remarkably, despite being one of the worst months ever on PlayStation Plus, Sony still manages to score a victory.
It may not be the highest profile game, but Cities Skyline is an excellent city management sim. It’s the game SimCity (the one that came out in 2013) should have been.
While Farming Simulator 19 is the lowest scoring game of the month, it’s on par with V-Rally 4 and Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr.
Sony may have scored a victory over Microsoft in the battle between PS Plus and Games with Gold, but either way, May 2020 won’t go down as a banner month.
Here’s hoping the June 2020 PS Plus and Games with Gold releases are better.
