PS5 fans at long last will find out more about the next Sony PlayStation console when a stream looking at the “future of gaming” is held next week.
Sony has today confirmed that the PS5 reveal event will be taking place on Thursday June 4 at 9pm BST.
The PlayStation Europe Twitter account confirmed the news as well as showing a teaser video that appears to hint at a black DualSense controller.
Previously, the only DualSense model that had been showcased was a white version.
The @PlayStationEU Twitter posted: “Join us Thursday 4th June at 9pm BST / 10pm CEST for a look at the future of gaming on PlayStation 5.”
Sony has confirmed that the PS5 reveal stream will last for around an hour and will look at the games coming to the PlayStation 5 after it launches later this year.
In a blog post online SIE President and CEO Jim Ryan went into more details about what PlayStation fans can expect from the PS5 reveal event.
Ryan wrote: “There are few things as exciting as the launch of a new console. While this road to launch has been a bit…different, we are as thrilled as ever to bring you with us on this journey to redefine the future of videogames.
“We’ve shared technical specifications and shown you the new DualSense wireless controller. But what is a launch without games?
“That’s why I’m excited to share that we will soon give you a first look at the games you’ll be playing after PlayStation 5 launches this holiday.
“The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.
“This digital showcase will run for a bit more than an hour and, for the first time, we will all be together virtually experiencing the excitement together. A lack of physical events has given us an amazing opportunity to think differently and bring you on this journey with us, and hopefully, closer than ever before.
“This is part of our series of PS5 updates and, rest assured, after next week’s showcase, we will still have much to share with you.”
The confirmation of the PS5 reveal event comes after in-the-know journalists Jeff Grubb and Jason Schreier had both previously reported a PlayStation 5 reveal was happening in early June.
Following today’s announcement, Schreier took to Twitter to post: “Fun fact: Sony was so paranoid of leaks (and/or things were so constantly in flux) that at least two developers who will actually be presenting at next week’s PS5 event told me they weren’t given any date at all”.
While Grubb tweeted: “Like I said. June 4.”
