PS5 news has been coming in thick and fast recently as Sony builds excitement towards the PlayStation 5 release date. The PS5 is scheduled for a holiday 2020 launch and there is still plenty that we don’t know about the PS4 successor. PlayStation fans don’t know the exact release date, pricing or games that will be coming to the PS5.
But recently more details have started to emerge about the PS4 successor.
In March Mark Cerny presented a deep dive stream where the PS5’s specs were revealed and this week we got a first look at the console’s controller.
In a surprise announcement that came out of the blue Sony on Tuesday unveiled the first pictures of the PS5’s DualSense joypad which boasts haptic feedback tech.
In a blog post Sony gave a rundown of the PS5 controller which they described as “radical” and “transformative”.
But interestingly the post from Sony about the DualSense controller could have hinted towards when the full PS5 reveal will be.
At the moment we’re unclear when a PS5 reveal will take place, which is likely to be in a State of Play stream.
Rumours had pencilled in a full PS5 reveal as taking place in February and then March but so far this big unveiling hasn’t taken place.
However, Sony has teased that more details on the PS5 will be shared “in the coming months”.
And the PlayStation makers said more information on the design of the console will be revealed during this period.
The tease comes courtesy of SIE President and CEO Jim Ryan who was talking about the DualSense controller.
Ryan said: “DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controller offerings and captures just how strongly we feel about making a generational leap with PS5.
“The new controller, along with the many innovative features in PS5, will be transformative for games – continuing our mission at PlayStation to push the boundaries of play, now and in the future.
“To the PlayStation community, I truly want to thank you for sharing this exciting journey with us as we head toward PS5’s launch in Holiday 2020. We look forward to sharing more information about PS5, including the console design, in the coming months.”
When exactly these details drop remain to be seen, but it appears Sony are ramping up their reveals of PS5 info.
On March 18 we had the deep dive PS5 specs reveal with Cerny and then a few weeks after that the DualSense controller was unveiled.
This quick succession of PS5 news could be a sign that more PlayStation 5 details may drop shortly also.
When the PS5 reveal happens remains to be seen, with Express.co.uk previously predicted an announcement by June at the latest.
Microsoft are likely to give a full rundown on the Xbox Series X in June, which is when E3 2020 was going to be held.
That was where a blowout on Xbox Series X info was expected to happen.
But now E3 2020 has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic a digital event is set to take place instead.
It would be surprising if we reach the end of the first half of this year with only launch details for the next-gen Xbox confirmed.
So, we’d anticipate a PS5 reveal having taken place by the end of June – which would chime in with Ryan’s comments.
But, this is just an estimate and Sony have been surprising many with the way they have approached the PS5 reveal so far.
For the time being, fans will just have to rest assured that more details on the PS5 will be dropping “in the coming months”.
