PSN servers are reported as being down today by gamers on PS4 and PS3 consoles.
Sony has yet to confirm an official change in the PlayStation Network’s server status, but an update is expected very soon.
Gamers are reporting problems with logging in tonight and also strange maintenance messages popping up during the sign in process.
Some PS4 users have also been prompted to renew their PS Plus subscription, even though they are up to date.
One user writes: “It says I need PS Plus to do anything even though I already have it. Also, it won’t show my friends or allow me to go into PS Store.”
Another adds: “Got ps plus – saying I need to renew. Done the system update. – now still getting network under maintenance.”
It’s unclear what is causing tonight’s server outage or how long it might last on the PSN.
News is expected to be shared by Sony on the situation very soon if problems continue over the coming hour.
The first problems were flagged by PS4 gamers at around 8pm GMT, and the problems appear to be affecting gamers in the US and Europe.
The most recent PSN status message from Sony reads: “You may experience somewhat slower or delayed game downloads because we’re working with ISPs to manage download traffic.
“We believe it’s important to do our part to address internet stability concerns as an unprecedented number of people are staying home and practising social distancing. We appreciate the support and understanding from our community.”
