Niko Hulkenberg was brought in to take Perez’s seat and he managed to qualify 13th.
But the German driver was unable to start the race after a fault in his car’s power unit.
Perez won’t race this weekend though, meaning Hulkenberg will get another chance to show his talents on the track in an F1 car.
He raced for nine years in Formula One, with his final stint being with Renault.
But he was unable to find a seat for the 2020 season after being replaced by Esteban Ocon at Renault.
