Recovery patrols will still repair cars on non-essential journeys says AA President

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr King confirmed the group supported the government advice but confirmed patrols would not be stopping essential work on vehicles despite the destination they may be travelling to.

He said: “A couple of our patrols did raise that. They said ‘if we’re called out and it’s obvious that the Smith family are going to Bognor Regis to sit on the beach and they’ve got five kids in the back and whatever, what do we do?

“To be honest we did think about it, we talk to ministers every week on this and we totally support the government advice.

“But in terms of the breakdown situation I don’t really think it’s up to put the pressure on our patrol to actually tell Mr and Mrs Smith and the five kids they shouldn’t be going to Bognor Regis.

“They would still repair the car, they might advise that it’s not the best thing to do but we wouldn’t actually stop them.”
