Riverdale theories: Archie Andrews next victim of videotape horror as history repeats

Archie (played by KJ Apa) has managed to avoid being beaten to a pulp in season four of Riverdale, with the drama centring around the mysterious disappearance of his best friend, Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). This led to old, harboured feelings for his neighbour Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) resurfacing, only for her boyfriend to arise from the dead after setting up a ploy to bring down his enemies at Stonewall Prep. Whilst the two forbidden lovers fought to stay away from one another for the latter part of the season, they were brought together by the mystery of an unknown character seemingly making videos in which they react some of the most heinous deaths which have been seen on the Netflix series. However, could the redhead become the next victim of the saboteur as he winds up dead in season five?

It’s fair to say, the young musician’s relationship with Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) has never been the easiest, what with her father Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) deeply disapproving of it.

As his daughter defied his orders to stay away from the budding sportsman, the ruthless businessman set up the youngster for murder, leading to his incarceration at the end of season two.

Whilst behind bars in season three, the teenager was tormented and beaten to a pulp after he was forced to take part in illegal underground boxing fights.

This was all coerced by his girlfriend’s father to drive them apart and when the Gargoyle King’s deadly games meant the redhead was facing death, his friends managed to break him free.

However, with the beloved character cheating on his beau with her best friend, could history be set to repeat itself, making him the next victim of the videotape saboteur?

As Jughead’s ‘death’ played out in the first half of the fourth season, residents of Riverdale were being sent endless hours of their houses being recorded on video.

This then became more sinister by the end of the season as re-enactments of the deaths of Jason Blossom (Trevor Stines), Midge Klump (Emilija Baranac) and Jughead, despite him not being dead, were posted to various residents’ home addresses.

The final episode of the current run saw the high schoolers trying to boot Principal Honey (Kerr Smith) from his position as he had cancelled numerous events.

At the same time, the show’s narrator was writing a book about the teacher’s grim demise, which never actually came to fruition.

With secrets unable to stay harboured for long, Veronica could discover her boyfriend is really in love with her best friend.

This would leave her utterly heartbroken and confiding in her family in what a cheat Archie is, her father could be forced to get revenge once more.

Having almost got his daughter’s boyfriend killed before, this time, Hiram could finally get the chance to silence the teenager, or at least get someone to do it for him.

If this does storyline twist does play out, the residents of Riverdale will mourn the loss of yet another high schooler.

Just at the time they need to be tormented the least, could the videotape saboteur re-enact Archie’s murder if it is caught on camera?

Could this really be the end for the teenager after trying to avoid death for so many years and finally getting back into Hiram’s good books?

The youngster’s demise could come at the beginning of season five as showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has teased some details about the first episode with Entertainment Tonight.

Discussing the plans for the upcoming season, which has been postponed due to the coronavirus crisis, the show boss said: “We actually shot the prom, where a lot of dramatic stuff happened, there were so many emotional scenes with Archie and Veronica and Jughead and Betty.”

Could Archie be shot dead in the midst of the teenager’s goodbye to Riverdale High?

Riverdale season 1-4 are now available on Netflix.
