South Yorkshire Police were called to Park Lane in the Thrybergh area just after 9am, after a man attended Rotherham General Hospital with suspected gunshot wounds. The alleged victim is believed to be in a serious condition in hospital.
A statement issued by South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers were called at 9.20am this morning following reports a man was in hospital with suspected gunshot injuries. He is described as being in serious condition.
“Park Lane in Thrybergh has been closed by police to allow for initial enquiries to take place.
“An investigation is underway and is in its early stages.”
Anyone with information is being asked to call 101 quoting incident number 224.
Armed police officers are stationed outside, according to Yorkshire Live.
Local residents have been told the police at at the hospital for ‘everyone’s safety’.
Residents have also reported seeing a police helicopter hovering over the hospital.
