Spain coronavirus: Cases surge to 24,926 with 1,326 dead – rise of 3,355 cases in 24 hours

Meanwhile, the number of people diagnosed with the deadly virus has risen by almost 4,000 and now stands at 24,926. The country has the third-highest number of infections in the world, behind only Italy and China.

Although most citizens have adhered to the government mandate to stay inside, some caught venturing outside without a valid reason have been fined or even arrested. 

The number of arrests during the first five days of lockdown amounted to 157 people, with Madrid alone issuing 907 people with fines for breaking the rules of lockdown.
