‘Spectacular’ village with mythical connection named one of UK’s prettiest – ‘gorgeous’

Derbyshire is a popular tourist destination, with many visitors heading to the Peak District National Park. With beautiful nature all around and incredible links to some of the most famous names in England, one village has been singled out for its beauty.

Hathersage is no ordinary village.

Located in the Hope Valley, Hathersage is an outdoors enthusiast’s paradise.

Stanage Edge is famous for climbing and the village has trails to follow for Britons who want to explore the surrounding countryside.

On Tripadvisor, Heidi D commented on her walk to Stanage and said: “This is a beautiful hike.

“There are many paths to follow and so you can make it as easy or difficult as you want.

“The boulders mixed with nonstop heather provided a spectacular sight.

“We spent a couple of hours hiking and just taking in the views.”

The Derwent Valley Heritage Trail passes close by for keen walkers, and the moors and fells offer all visitors a chance to explore the surrounding nature.

But Hathersage is also special because of the famous people who are associated with it.

The village was the birthplace of Robin Hood’s lieutenant, Little John.

Hathersage is also the famous man’s resting place.

David F said: “Some may doubt that this is really Little John’s grave but why spoil the fun – the church is well worth a visit with interesting brasses and Bronte connections.”

The grave of Little John is located by the south door of St Michael Church, but it’s not the only Robin Hood association Hathersage claims.

Robin Hood’s Cave on Stanage Edge, Stoop on Offerton Moor and Cross on Abney Moor are all located within easy access of the village.

Hathersage became the village of Morton in Jane Eyre and The George Hotel became The George Inn.

The village is also famous for its outdoor pool, allowing visitors to swim in heated waters while looking at the surrounding beauty of the countryside.

James S said: “Simply gorgeous!

“Pool is a great temperature and the showers and good and hot. Staff are friendly and helpful.

“The views are stunning.”
