State pension: ‘Tyrannical’ system forcing 50s women to apply for ‘wholly inadequate’ aid

Ms Welch said: “The point is, 50s women don’t have their pension so how can it be enough?

“For instance, some women are having to wait up to six years to get their pension.

“So amid this pandemic some of them are forced to work and others are struggling on benefits which are wholly inadequate.

“It’s an absolute tyrannical system and they’re forced to apply for benefits when they planned for their retirement.”

She continued: “Yet they don’t have the earned dues to which they’re entitled.

“The question ‘is the state pension enough’, I think that’s a question for people other than 50s women.

“50s women would very much like their pension.

“Boris Johnson did say he was going to help us, but that promise never came to fruition.”

However during the general election, he said: “The WASPI issue as everyone knows is a very difficult problem caused by a change in the pension age for women who retired at a certain age.

“And we have looked at it and looked at it and looked at it. I would love to be able to magic you a solution. It is very expensive to come up with the solution that you want.

“And I’m going to be honest with you tonight. I cannot promise that I can magic up that money for you tonight.”
