Succession’s Brian Cox reveals how Logan Roy really feels about his children

Following this year’s Emmy awards, HBO drama Succession remained one of the most talked about new dramas as the wait for its third season continues. Before the mega-rich Roy family returns to screens, Brian Cox had some surprising words to say about Logan’s relationship to his bickering children.

Famed British comedy writer Jesse Armstrong went stateside in 2018 for the first season of Succession, a scathing satire of the wealthy elite.

Brian Cox stars as Logan Roy, a powerful media mogul who tries in vain to keep the peace between his conniving children who fight for the top position of Waystar Royco when their father’s health takes a dive.

The first season proved a surprise hit for HBO, and the acclaimed follow-up just received a number of awards at this year’s Emmys, including acting nods for Cox and co-star Jeremy Strong.

Now the wait for Succession to return is on, and the cast and crew are hopeful production can start before the end of the year, pending coronavirus restrictions.

In the meantime, iconic star Brian Cox has provided some meaningful insight into his character Logan’s feelings for his four scheming children.

While Connor (Alan Ruck) is more interested in politics, the second season saw Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) fall into disarray as they fought over the biggest slice of the Waystar pie.

Moreover, after Kendall’s devastating accident at the end of season one, Logan’s second son gradually became a shell of his former self as he was forced to do his father’s most unpleasant bidding.

Logan’s relationship with his kids is messier than it’s ever been following the second season’s finale, in which Kendall went public with his father’s horrific scandals.

Despite this, reactions to Logan’s parenting techniques have been mixed, as Cox explained Logan still demonstrates genuine affection for his family throughout the series.

He revealed: “I saw this thing on Instagram where somebody in one paragraph was saying ‘this is awful, this terrible father’ and in the next paragraph a young woman was saying ‘oh, I wish I had a father like that’. So you’ve got this contrast.”

Of course, Logan in the series is one of the most influential and successful businessmen in the world, and can’t help but feel his children haven’t been able to live up to his lofty expectations.

Cox continued: “No, he does love his children but he’s somewhat disappointed in them, shall we say?”
