Swansea fire: Huge plume of black smoke and flames rises from university building

The fire is at Swansea University Bay Campus on Fabian Way. Swansea University has stated they are aware of the fire and the fire service is currently battling the blaze. 

A BBC Wales journalist tweeted regarding the incident: “Reports of 5 fire engines at Swansea University Bay Campus.

“The University says it’s aware of a fire and that the fire service is attending, and will provide updates in due course.

“I understand no one was in the building at the time.”

The Bay Campus cost £450 million to build and is used by around 5,000 students and 1,000 staff.

The Bay Campus was opened in 2015.

Swansea University tweeted: “We are aware of a fire in Engineering Central at the Bay Campus.

“The fire service is in attendance.”
