For most people, the date to renew your tax credits by is July 31, 2020, and if you miss the deadline your tax credits will stop.
If you miss the deadline you will be sent a statement, and any tax credits you have received since April 6, 2020, will need to be paid back.
If you miss the deadline to renew and contact HRMC within 30 days of the date on the statement you have been sent, your tax credit claim may be restored which will mean you do not have to pay the money back.
If your tax credits stop, you can only reapply for tax credits if you get the severe disability premium, or got it in the past month and are still eligible for it.
Tax credits are being replaced by Universal Credit, so if you are not eligible for tax credits you may be able to successfully claim for Universal Credit.
