As the world endures the lockdown, celebrities have been seeking to cheer up fans over the internet. And now The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has announced that the Yellow Submarine movie will be live-streamed as a singalong version this weekend. The 1968 animated classic will be exclusively hosted on The Beatles’ official YouTube channel.
The one-time-only event takes plays this Saturday, April 25 at 5pm BST.
The restored version of Yellow Submarine will feature song lyrics at the bottom of the screen so fans can singalong together at home when The Beatles perform in the movie.
Ringo himself announced the special event through his official Instagram account.
He wrote: “Surprise! come one come all to the Yellow Submarine singalong this Saturday on the Beatles’ YouTube channel at 9am PDT/12 noon EDT/5pm BST.”
The synopsis adds: “The sympathetic Beatles ride a yellow submarine to the occupied Pepperland, where the Blue Meanies have no chance against the Fab Four’s groovy tunes.”
While the real Beatles only participated at the end of the movie, with their cartoon counterparts being voiced by actors, some of their greatest hits feature in the animated classic.
Apart from Yellow Submarine, other tracks included are Eleanor Rigby, Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds and Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Yellow Submarine celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018 and the singalong version was released then.
This is the first time this version has been made available for fans since then.
At one point Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis had hoped to remake Yellow Submarine in 3D animation.
However, the remake was cancelled and the director lost interest in the project.
