New musical drama The Eddy was released on Friday, May 8, with the entirety of the eight-episode series being dropped on Netflix in one go. Directed by Damien Chazelle, who brought us Whiplash and La La Land, The Eddy is bound to be his next big hit. But is there a plan for more episodes in the pipeline?
Set in Paris, The Eddy tells the story of a failing jazz club of the same name.
Owned by Elliot Udo (played by Andre Holland), he is a major reason behind why The Eddy is going under as he is often unreliable and emotionally immature.
Elliot was once a celebrated jazz pianist but those days are behind him and now must concentrate on the business and his on-off relationship with lead singer Maja (Joanna Kuling).
But things change when his 15-year-old daughter Julie (Amandla Stenberg) arrives unexpectedly at his door.
The Eddy is a Netflix original series and usually, with all of its content, the streaming service doesn’t make an official announcement about a show’s future until around one month after its release date.
This is so those at Netflix can take a look at the viewing ratings and the level of engagement with a show to see if subscribers would want to see it return for another season.
As The Eddy was released this week, fans are likely to find out the show’s future sometime next month.
Following the show’s ending though, there does seem to be some scope for another series.
Elliot got himself mixed up with gangsters during the series and they ended up bombing his main office as a result.
He decides to go undercover and work unofficially with the police to try and catch those responsible.
Meanwhile, he and Julie have grown closer and Elliot appears more content with his life and making music again.
The second season could focus on what’s next for his musical career as well as Julie getting used to her new life in Paris.
The Eddy season 1 is available to watch on Netflix.
