Arsenal suffered a 3-0 loss at Leicester on Sunday, though they did spend the majority of the game with 10 men.
Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers appears to have settled on a back four since his arrival in February.
Ricardo Pereira and Ben Chilwell have been the regular full-backs, with Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans in the centre of defence.
And Merson reckons that is better than any defence Arsenal boss Unai Emery could field.
“I’d take the Leicester back four over Arsenal’s all day long,” Merson said on Sky Sports.
“I’d swap the whole lot tomorrow morning.
“Not a chance [any Arsenal defenders would get in the Leicester team].
“To be fair there’s not one at Man United’s who’d make Leicester’s.
“I like Chilwell, I think he’s a good player.”
Arsenal’s chances of finishing the season in the Premier League top four hang by a thread with two games of the season remaining.
However, they are in the semi-final of the Europa League where they face Valencia in the first leg on Thursday.
Merson doubts whether Emery knows his ideal starting XI from his current squad.
“I think if you sat him down now, I still honestly don’t think he knows what his best Arsenal team is,” Merson added.
“I don’t think he knows what his best Arsenal team is.
“They’re that bad in positions that he literally probably plays bingo in his office.
“He must literally draw numbers out and go ‘go on then, seven will play, 32 will play’.
“I seriously think with 36 games in, I seriously don’t think he would know [his best team].
“It changes every week, the team.”
