The Grand Tour’s Jeremy Clarkson take swipe at co-host James May ‘He’s not the fastest!’
Season four of the Top Gear trio’s new series, The Grand Tour, aired its first episode last December. However, the upcoming specials on Amazon Prime have been delayed amid the coronavirus lockdown. Jeremy Clarkson discussed the recent news, as well as his co-hosts’ shortcomings.
Rather than continuing the established model of just over ten 45-minute long instalments, season four of The Grand Tour opted four a shorter run of four feature-length specials.
The first episode, titled Seamen, aired on December 13, and featured Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May attempting to cross the Mekong Delta on three different boats.
Unfortunately, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has put the entertainment industry on hold, with Jeremy Clarkson confirming a planned trip to Russia had to be put on hold.
During a recent interview on the DriveTribe podcast on YouTube, Jeremy took the opportunity to share the news, as well as taking more signature swipes at his long-suffering co-hosts.

Host of DriveTribe Rachael Hogg asked: “James May happened to be the fastest man on the show, just wondering what is the top speed you’ve ever reached in a car?”
Formerly nicknamed Captain Slow, James May managed to reach a speed of 259.11 mph in the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport back in 2010.
May’s speed came close to Pierre Henri Raphanel’s record-breaking speed of 267.81 for the Bugatti Veyron.
However, in true Jeremy Clarkson fashion, the former Top Gear host took issue with James May’s record-smashing speed from some years ago.
Unfortunately, Jeremy won’t reveal where this unprecedented feat took place, but did confirm he was driving a Bugatti at the time, much like his fellow Grand Tour cast member.
He continued: “I just wanted to see how fast it went. It’s bizarre, people think that driving at 2-300mph is no different from 100; it really, really is, you’d be surprised.”
The Amazon star also couldn’t help getting in a dark jab at Richard Hammond’s 2006 crash in the Vampire dragster, which left the TV personality comatose for two weeks.
During the podcast, Jeremy discussed how travelling at top speeds can result in disastrous consequences following the smallest of mistakes.
He added: “If something very very tiny happens, the consequences are really huge. I mean look at Richard Hammond.
“He failed to spot his tyre was about to burst – which I would’ve seen of course, so would you – and then bang, tiny little thing like that and he was in a coma for – well – until he got his publishing deal.”
Richard Hammond’s book On the Edge: My Story became the subject of some controversy when the 2008 bestseller featured first-hand accounts of the Top Gear host’s accident.
Luckily, the three hosts have retained their rocky relationship over the years, and the upcoming episodes of The Grand Tour’s fourth season will be back in production when lockdown restrictions have been lifted.
