Kandi Burruss was revealed to be underneath the mask of the mysterious Night Angel in the thrilling final of The Masked Singer’s third season.
After a long journey, she finally beat out other finalists the Turtle and Frog in the last epic showdown, who were then unmasked as Jesse McCartney and Bow Wow.
The finale caused an upset on social media once the episode aired, as many thought the wrong celebrity took home the prize.
Even though she impressed the judges with her rendition of Tina Turner’s River Deep Mountain High, many fans thought Kandi wasn’t as deserving as country singer Jesse McCartney.
Despite splitting opinions, The Masked Singer’s third season remained as popular as ever and hype has already started to build for season four.
Viewers are hoping for even bigger celebrities for the upcoming instalment, as well as some more challenging clue packages to keep the identities of the costumed performers under wraps.
Several fans thought it was much too easy to pinpoint which celeb was behind each mask this year, as both Bow Wow and Jesse McCartney were heavily tipped well before their elaborate outfits were eventually removed.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Night Angel star and this year’s winner Kandi Burruss revealed she also had a fairly strong inkling of who was behind Frog’s mask.
However, the Night Angel eventually came out on top and was revealed as Real Housewives star and Destiny’s Child songwriter Kandi Burruss.
The celebrity bar this year was set higher than ever when the very first episode revealed world famous rapper Lil Wayne was under the robot suit.
Kandi said: “I’m a huge fan of Chaka Khan, Dionne Warwick. These are legends. I was like, ‘How did I get put in this whole competition with them?’
“And then when I saw Lil Wayne was in this competition I thought, ‘Okay, if Lil Wayne is in this competition, I can’t even imagine who else is in.’ I was always kind of worried.”
Thankfully, Kandi kept her cool and gave some of this year’s most memorable performances during her time on season three.
Commenting on her unexpected win, she added: “I think it’s a boost of confidence. I didn’t know I was going to win. Of course, you would love to win.
“I guess in my mind I wasn’t totally sure. I wasn’t totally confident about it. You just go in there and do your best. There’s no limit to what you can accomplish.”
The Masked Singer is hoped to return to Fox in Autumn 2020.
