The One Show: Angellica Bell fights back tears after guest’s emotional plea ‘I welled up’

BBC weeknight magazine show, The One Show, sees a host of guests on each programme and tonight featured appearances from comedian Miranda Hart and presenter, Alexander Armstrong. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the show has been having weekly update from the residents of a street in Leeds to voice their experiences of the lockdown and after tonight’s segment, Angellica admitted on-air she had “welled up” after one point of discussion in particular.

Alex Jones has been hosting the show with a different co-presenter every week and this week, Angellica Bell joined her on the famous green sofas.

Tonight, the pair were both back again to grill the guests and go discuss the various segments on the show.

However, at one point, Angellica admitted she had been left emotional after this week’s update from a street of residents in Leeds.

Each week, The One Show has been filming neighbours from the same street as they venture through the pandemic together – at a social distance.

Yesterday, Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, revealed Brits would be able to get together in groups of up to six, meaning some would see friends and family for the first time in weeks.

As the question arose with the group, resident Hitesh told his neighbours: “We’re desperate to see our granddaughter as you all know, who was born two weeks ago.”

Another resident replied: “I feel so sorry for you not being able to go and see her,” as the group continued their discussion.

As the focus returned to the studio, Alex said: “I feel for the gentleman with the two-week-old grandchild,”

The grandparent’s plea to see his newborn grandchild also resonated with Angellica, as the guest host admitted: “That really made me well up.”

He told the group: “That’s been a real problem for us because our daughter lives in Madrid.

“On Monday, for the first time, she actually could go out on a terrace and have a drink with no more than 10 people.”

He explained how the measures had been put into action in the Spanish capital, revealing: “They had to wear the masks but obviously had to take the masks down so they could have a drink.”

Hitesh joked: “Why not just put a hole in the middle and put a straw there?” giving his neighbours a laugh.

Elsewhere on the show tonight, Miranda Hart opened up about the possibility of revisiting her hit sitcom, Miranda.

Miranda told the hosts: “When we did the 10th-anniversary special it was so lovely to all be back together again.”

She hinted there could be more to follow, confessing: “There is always a desire to do more…

“I would love to see Miranda and Gary in their married life,” she teased.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
