Sir Tom Jones is possibly the most famous superstar to come out of Wales. Today’s celebration of the British country is the perfect opportunity for fans to praise the singer and The Voice UK coach for his legendary body of work. And some unearthed photos of the star in Welsh town Pontypridd only added to it.
The Welsh singer is famous for some of the biggest Welsh songs in history.
It’s Not Unusual, Sexbomb, Delilah and She’s a Lady, to name but a few.
And Sir Tom is one of those rare celebrities whose popularity and talent has been enduring across the decades.
The popular singer remains a staple on television with his role as a voice coach and mentor on The Voice UK.
But the star can just as easily relay a number of memories of his friendship with the King of Rock ’n’ Roll Elvis Presley.
Sharing their praise throughout the day, fans delighted in memories of Sir Tom as they celebrated Wales.
One fan posted: “In honour of St David’s Day, here’s two photos from 1974 by Terry O’Neill of Tom Jones in Pontypridd looking like the coolest man who ever lived.”
The images showed a dashing Sir Tom in the peak of his career, donning a fitting polo neck and sporting a mop of curly hair in keeping with the decade.
While discussing how they would celebrated the national holiday, a fifth simply wrote: “Listening to Tom Jones now!”
“I will listen to Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey and Harry Secombe on repeat,” another added.
One person admitted: “I completely forgot that it’s St David’s Day today, ***** , but anyway happy St David’s Day to any fellow Welshies that see this I hope you listen to Tom Jones and ride a dragon today.”
“Dude Gwyl Dewi Hapus! Celebrate by listening to the Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey Bond themes on repeat,” another fan finished.
