Tommy Fury: Love Island star obliterates opponent inside two rounds on boxing return

Tommy Fury dusted off the cobwebs in style as he delivered a brutal stoppage of Scott Williams at the Copper Box Arena. The Love Island star and brother Tyson Fury is a serious prospect and showcased his talent once again despite a complete mismatch on Frank Warren’s card.

Heading into the fight, Williams had nine professional contests to his name and had lost all of them.

But Warren is keen to manage the development of Fury cautiously, as he makes his way up through the ranks.

The light-heavyweight contender demonstrated his immense power once again, pulverising his opponent.

Fury was on the front foot from the off and went looking for his opponent, who was keen to move around the ring and hold on.

Williams’ gum shield then went flying after he was knocked down twice by two powerful right hands in the first round.

He beat the count though and was allowed to fight on but was told to stop running away in the second round.

It wasn’t long until he was put out of his misery as the referee called off the contest after Williams was sent tumbling to the canvas.

Unified light-welterweight world champion Josh Taylor was more than impressed with Fury’s performance, paying tribute to the way he cut off the ring.

The show was very nearly called off yesterday after the main event between Anto Cacace against Lyon Woodstock for the British super-featherweight title was cancelled.

Woodstock tested positive for Covid but thankfully BT Sport saved the show, something that Fury expressed his gratitude for after a nervous sweat.

He tweeted: “Would like to say a massive shoutout to @btsport for saving the show yesterday. Main event is out but thankfully the rest of us can put our hard months of training into action.”

While many know Fury as a reality TV star, he has always known he wanted to be a boxer. The Mancunian had just 12 amateur fights before deciding to enter the professional ranks.

Now he is keen to follow in his brother’s footsteps by winning a world title once day.

“Boxing is my life,” he recently said. “All I do is train and get myself on the road running.

“As soon as I got off the plane at Manchester Airport after Love Island, I said that all I wanted to do was box. So we went to see Frank Warren and got the show the road.

“Love Island was great fun, brought me a lot of privileges and earned me money, but boxing outweighs the celebrity life by a mile.

“Dad is training me as always, pushing as hard as he can. He is very old-fashioned with Rocky-style training methods.”

Now one Fury fight is out the way, the family are hoping to have some positive news on the biggest fight in boxing history.

The 21-year-old has made it clear that the Gypsy King is ready to rumble with Anthony Joshua this summer, as he urged AJ to sign the contract.

“At the end of the day, Tyson’s ready to fight. But Tyson’s ready to fight 24/7,” Tommy told talkSPORT.

“He proved that, he had three years off and came back and fought Wilder.

“The ball’s in AJ’s court now. AJ and Wilder were talking for four years; ‘Oh, I’m going to fight him, I’m going to do this’.

“Tyson got straight off the couch and thought, ‘I’ll fight you as he obviously isn’t’. And that’s what it’s like now.

“We are ready to fight. The ball’s in Joshua’s court. Whenever he wants to find a pen and get the fight signed, the quicker you guys can get the announcement.”
