The UK’s biggest tour operator announced today that it will be cancelling all trips up to and including July 10. TUI had originally set a date for June 30. The company today updated its FAQ page on its website to inform customers of which holidays it has been forced to cancel due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A message on their website read: “Due to the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office currently advise against all but essential travel.
“We’d like to extend a personal thank you for your patience and understanding as our customer service and social media teams work around the clock during such an unprecedented time.
“We’ve been working behind the scenes to make a number of changes to our processes.
“These changes will make sure that we’re able to offer additional support to you going forward and will make managing your booking much easier for you.”
On arrival, a traveller will have to provide the UK authorities with the address of where they will be staying.
They will then be asked to remain quarantined at that address for 14 days.
If they are caught flouting the rules, they could face a fine of up to £1,000.
The only exceptions to the rules are those travelling from the Common Travel Area such as the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
TUI’s update is another blow to the travel and tourism industry that has been financially battered by the coronavirus pandemic.
TUI has also cancelled its River Cruises sailing up until and including November 25.
TUI Lakes and Mountains holidays are also cancelled up unto and including September 30.
Although holidays later in the year are likely to go ahead, TUI’s website says that the plans will be “continuously reviewed”.
TUI has said that anyone with a cancelled holiday can get “refund credit” within four weeks of their departure date.
The refund credit can then reportedly be swapped for a cash refund.
TUI has a refund request form on their website for you to get your cash refund.
However, a refund request cannot be processed without a “refund credit code”.
If your holiday was part of a package with flights included, you will be protected by ATOL.
