Two major cruise lines cancel nearly all summer cruises – is your cruise affected?

Cruise holidays have suffered at the hands of the coronavirus pandemic. Many Britons with cruise bookings have seen their trips cancelled or postponed. Now, two major cruise lines have revealed the vast majority of their sailings won’t be going ahead this summer, in the latest cruise news.

Smaller cruise line Seabourn also revealed it had cancelled all cruises for the rest of the summer.

Seabourn said its five ships won’t return until October or November, depending on the vessel.

The three companies announced their plans to halt operations back in March.

Initially they said sailings would only be cancelled until late June.


With the latest news, however, customers will now have to wait at least four months before they can sail again.

Princess Cruises’ first ship to return to service will be the Majestic Princess in August. The vessel is just one of 18.

Nine more ships from the Princess fleet are set to sail in September.

“As the world is still preparing to resume travel, it is with much disappointment that we announce an extension of our pause of global ship operations and the cancellation of cruise vacations for our loyal guests,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises.

“Among other disruptions, airlines have limited their flight availability and many popular cruise ports are closed.

“It saddens us to think about the impact on the livelihood of our teammates, business partners and the communities we visit.”

All cruise passengers will be automatically notified if their cruise departure has been cancelled and what options are available to them.

Princess and Holland America customers who have paid in full for cruises which have been cancelled will have the option of a full refund or a credit in the amount of 125 percent of the amount paid.

Passengers who have not paid in full will have the choice of a full refund or a credit worth double the amount they had paid as a deposit.

Requests for refunds must be received by June 15 for Princess and June 1 for Holland America.

If they are not submitted before this date customers will receive the refundable Future Cruise Credit option.
