UK weather forecast: Long-range charts turn RED as blistering 30C 7-DAY heatwave strikes

Britons are set to scorch in blazing sunshine later this month as a mini-heatwave hits the country, bringing an end to the unsettled conditions. Such is the strength of the heatwave, Netweather has reported temperatures hitting 26C (78F) for large parts of the country between Sunday 12 and July 20. On Thursday 16 the majority of UK will be covered in sunshine with the average temperature reaching into the mid-20s.

The heat will remain, however, and may even reach 27C for some areas on Monday 20.

Netweather has also indicated temperatures could reach 30C (86F) as the jet stream moves towards the south of the UK.

Commenting on the period between July 13-19, where charts show heat to remain across the country for most of the week, they said: “A transition to more changeable weather is expected this week, with the jet stream gradually moving further south and the ridges from the Azores High moving further away from the British Isles.

“The hottest spell of the forecast period is expected to be at the beginning of this week, when temperatures have potential to exceed 30C especially in the southeast.

“There is potential for a thundery breakdown, but confidence in this is low.”

The BBC Weather long-range forecast has also supported this although there could also be a chance of a north-south split in weather systems.

Looking ahead to the period, the BBC Weather’s long-range forecast says: “Interludes of high pressure are expected in between the low pressures, bringing some drier, calmer days too.

“High pressure will likely hold greater influence over the southern half of the UK, and this should largely keep fronts at bay, allowing for more dry, calm days across England and Wales.

Due to that, large parts of Scotland experienced heavy showers although the southeast has seen temperatures rise to the low 20s.

Looking ahead to next week, temperatures are expected to rise to the high teens on Monday.

This is due to a ridge of high pressure hitting the UK at the start of the week.

On Tuesday, BBC Weather predicted rain for Wales, the north of England and parts of Scotland.

The south is expected to experience overcast conditions with a high of 21C.

BBC Weather reported: “Tuesday will start off dry with sunny spells. However, rain will spread in from the west later.

“This rain will continue to drift eastwards overnight.

“A drier day for some on Wednesday with some sunny spells.

“However, southern areas are likely to stay mostly cloudy with some rain possible.

“Thursday may see showery rain for central and southern areas. Drier to the north.”
