UK weather warning: ‘Nasty’ 60mph Atlantic blast to smash Britain with ferocious winds

The UK has experienced wet conditions over the last week, and that poor weather is expected to continue tomorrow according to the latest charts. According to graphs from weather forecasters, WxCharts, wind speeds could reach highs of 89 kph (55 mph) for many across the UK. The forecaster also reports possible downpours resulting in a staggering 40mm of rain in certain areas of the country.

Scotland is likely to be worst hit, while the north of England is also expected to see sudden showers.

WxCharts said: “A strong jet stream powering across the Atlantic over the weekend is expected to deliver a nasty low and unseasonably windy conditions to northern parts of the British Isles heading into Sunday.”

Such is the severe weather expected to hit the British Isles that the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England.

Commenting on the forecast for Sunday, Met Office meteorologist, Alex Deakin said: “An area of low pressure is moving towards the UK.

“It could well bring a spell of unusually windy conditions for a time Saturday night and Sunday morning so it’s something we need to keep a close eye on.

“We do have a yellow weather warning in for some parts of Northern Ireland, central and southern Scotland and parts of northern England.

“Gusts could reach 50 possibly 60mph or more.

“This weather is unusual for this time of year and could cause some disruption.”

While some areas in the UK could see temperatures reaching the low 20s, a second weather front will hit the north and Scotland.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast suggested there could be a north-south split in the UK.

It said: “Remaining largely settled across most southern and southeastern parts on Wednesday with a good deal of warm sunny spells.

“Further north, there is an increasing chance of some rain arriving throughout the day, perhaps with strong winds.

“Looking further ahead, a continuation of the north/south split seems most likely.

“Northern and northwestern areas are expected to see further spells of rain, accompanied by strong winds, these possibily spreading to some other areas at times.

“Further south, there should be more in the way of dry weather, though even here, the possibility of some rain or showers still exists.

“Temperatures are likely to be below average for most northern areas, though hovering near or locally above in the south.”
