Valorant Beta release date latest from Riot Games

Valorant, Riot Games’ new shooter, will be taking on the big dogs like CS: GO in 2020.

But before that happens, the development team for the new 5vs5 tactical FPS have promised that they will be conducting a Valorant beta test.

And there has been some confusion of late on when that might be happening on PC.

There were reports that the first Valorant beta could happen in March, perhaps in the coming days.

And while gamers would love to start testing out the next game from the League of Legends creators, it doesn’t look like it will be happening right now.

This week has seen Riot Games provide further release date news regarding the Valorant beta.

In a new update shared with Dexerto, Riot Games has confirmed that the Valorant beta release date has not been set for this week.

The statement reads: “Riot Games has confirmed to Dexerto that the claim of a beta starting in the ‘next few days’ is “100% false.”

For now, Riot Games has not provided any kind of guidance on when to expect the first beta test to kick off.

It has to happen before Summer 2020, as this is when the full game will be going live on PC.

However, that provides a large time frame for gamers waiting to get their first taste of gameplay.

Riot Games has also confirmed that an upcoming Valorant event, which would have featured hands-on gameplay, has been cancelled.

This was scheduled to kick off in March and has been written off due to the current Coronavirus situation.

A message from Riot Games adds: “VALORANT’s goal is to bring the world together in the spirit of competition and creative play but in current circumstances, flying folks in to play under one roof isn’t smart.

“We’re cancelling March’s hands-on gameplay events – let’s play without the health risks. Stay tuned.”

More concerning the upcoming Valorant beta is expected to be shared by Riot Games in the coming months. From what we know so far, Valorant testing will happen in a closed beta environment, and it’s unclear if this will be followed by an open beta later.

For those that might not have heard much about Valorant yet, the basis of gameplay features two teams of attackers and defenders duking it out over a best-of-24-rounds clash.

The game is set on a near-future Earth, where players can choose from al cast of agents, all hailing from real-world locations These agents boast unique abilities that they can use to gather information, fortify locations, scout for enemy intel, breach defensive sites, control territory, and more.

“Throughout VALORANT’s development, we wanted to uphold the fundamental values of a competitive tactical shooter: precise shooting, lethal gunplay, and strategic execution,” said the game’s Executive Producer, Anna Donlon.

“By adding unique character abilities that complement the game’s gunplay we believe we’re expanding upon the traditional tac shooter experience and bringing something new to the genre – and we hope the launch of Valorant will be the start of a long-term relationship with tactical FPS fans from around the world.”
