Riot Games has revealed that a new Valorant announcement is coming this week, with fans hoping for a big update. There’s no word on what it will include but gamers are hoping it will be the Valorant release date on PC. For now, Riot Games has only confirmed that the game will be launched on PC during Summer 2020. So there is still plenty of scope for the development team to confirm what month they hope to have Valorant ready by.
The team shooter has proven popular on PC during its closed beta, with over 100K still watching streams on Twitch.
This is still the only way to get a Valorant code and it doesn’t appear that Riot Games will be changing the process this month.
Meanwhile, The new Valorant announcement is being made during a Summer Game Fest stream this week.
Summer Game Fest is an all-digital event being held over the coming months, covering video game news and events from game developers and publishers.
SGF will feature digital news events, playable content, in-game events, and “other surprises you can experience for free from the comfort of home.
“There won’t be events every day of Summer Game Fest — think of it like a summer concert series where there are dark days at a venue.
“SGF is a season for events and digital activities that will run from May – August 2020. It is not a singular show.”
And the good news is that the big Valorant announcement will be made in the coming hours.
The Valorant announcement will be made at around 4pm via the Summer Game Fest platform, featuring game director Joe Ziegler.
“Tune in tomorrow at 11 am ET / 8 am PT / 4 pm BST for an update and announcement from the @PlayVALORANT team — executive producer @RiotSuperCakes and Game Director @RiotZiegler,” a message from the Summer Game Fest social media account confirms.
Questions are also being asked whether Valorant will have a release date on PS4, Switch or Xbox One.
It certainly would be great to hear about more closed betas popping up in the coming months.
And while there is plenty of interest in the launch of Valorant on PS4 and Xbox One, it doesn’t look like it’s happening in 2020.
Riot Games has not ruled out the idea of Valorant coming to other platforms and it seems very possible that the future could hold some exciting news on the subject.
But for now, the PC release of Valorant is the focus for Riot Games and its development team.
The latest news on the subject comes directly from the dev team, with Joe Ziegler, Game Director of VALORANT at Riot Games, answering questions from the Express Online.
This included an update on whether other platforms will see the launch of Valorant in the future.
Ziegler revealed that his team were exploring options but it’s not something being worked on right now.
He explained: “While we are exploring other platforms like console and mobile, right now the team is working hard to deliver a top notch experience on PC.”
It follows earlier comments made by the team on the subject which came during a stream on Twitch, being held on the TimTheTatMan channel.
It included Valorant lead designer Trevor Romleski answering the question of whether a console launch is being planned.
Romleski answered: “Our focus right now is on PC. We’re open to exploring new opportunities for other platforms, but for the time being what our current focus is, is on the PC platform.”
