Virgin Media joins Sky TV with news that will be a huge relief for millions of customers
Virgin Media is following in the footsteps of Sky with a major announcement about its plans to help customers through the coronavirus crisis. With millions now working from home or self-isolating to stop the spread of the potentially fatal virus, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are doing their utmost to keep people connected online.
Virgin has confirmed that, starting next week, it will hand more than 2.7 million Pay Monthly customers unlimited minutes to landlines and mobile numbers, plus a 10GB data boost – at no extra cost. This helpful incentive will last for a month.
Along with free calls, Virgin Media says it’s working hard to make sure its broadband network survives the onslaught of everyone staying at home.
The firm has stated that its technicians and support teams are keeping an eye on its service and performance to make sure it can respond to extra traffic.
In a post on its website, Virgin said: “As more people may be working from home at the moment, it’s important to know our network can withstand any increased usage, including peaks throughout the day, in the evenings and at weekends. As usage rises, our existing capacity will be able to take it – but we’ll have a close eye on things and make changes if we need to.”

Another boost to homes is the news that Sky Go Extra will now be available to all customers for free and there’s an added bonus for phone and mobile customers. This includes all calls to UK landlines becoming free at any time of day will be for existing Sky Talk customers.
All Sky Mobile customers will also get a 10GB data boost into their Piggybanks, free of charge. This can be shared across all the SIMs on the account.

We’re also introducing some things to help make life a little easier for anyone at home trying to work, stay connected to loved ones, or keep the family entertained,” said Stephen van Rooyen, EVP & CEO, Sky UK and Europe.
