What Arsenal boss Unai Emery wants his players to do over the summer – Balague

That’s according to transfer expert Guillem Balague.

Emery signed five players last summer for Arsenal but the Gunners missed out on the Champions League football for next season because they finished fifth in the league.

Emery and co. can still qualify for next season’s competition by winning the Europa League final against Chelsea.

Arsenal are set to undergo an hugely important transfer window but they reportedly only have £40million to spend before player sale fees.

Europa League glory, however, could mean that their summer budget is boosted by another £25m.

And Balague believes that Emery has his summer plans in place, including what the Spaniard wants from his current players.

Thickening the squad is first priority, but he also wants more from players at the club now says the Sky Sports transfer expert.

“What Unai is trying to do is add layers to the side,” Balague said on his YouTube channel.

“It will make much more sense as time goes on.

“He will have the players that he wants, but he will get more training sessions for the team to do what he wants them to do.

“What does he want them to do? To be flexible, not to look always the same, to adapt a little bit to the team and to the circumstances of the rival and to the circumstances of his own team.

“That’s why he doesn’t look like he has a personality. I think he does, but the next personality is flexibility, if you like.”

Arsenal played some attractive football in the first season under Emery but struggled with their away form, especially toward the end of the season.

The Gunners were in pole position to finish inside the top four with only a few games remaining but losses to Leicester, Wolves and Everton before drawing with Brighton saw them collapse.

Emery’s only January signing Denis Suarez, who came to north London on loan from Barcelona, ruled himself out of the rest of the season with weeks remaining after suffering a groin injury.

Suarez has headed back to Barca, having endured a torrid few months with the club.
